For clients with premium accounts, Solnet provides an e-mail spam filter that identifies most spam emails and marks them with [SPAM] in the mail message subject line. This happens directly on our mail server, before any mail gets sent to you.

The filter works by checking the mail content for well know spam phrases and whilst is usually very reliable, it is NOT 100% ACCURATE. Some spam will slip though the net and some valid mail may get tagged as spam.

To deal with the mail when it arrives on your PC, you can usually set up filters in your own e-mail program to file these 'spam' messages into a separate folder.

For example, in Microsoft Outlook Express, click the Tools menu and select Message Rules, then Mail.

This will bring up a new window, Message Rules.

Click New to bring up the New Mail Rule window.

Under Conditions, check Where the Subject line contains specific words.
Under Actions, check Move it to the specified folder.
Change the Name of the rule to Spam.

Click the underlined contains specific words in the Description box. This will bring up the Type Specific Words window.

Enter [spam] and click Add, then Ok.

The New Mail Rule window will appear again. Click specified in the Description box. This will bring up the Copy window.

Click on Local Folders and click New Folder. Type Spam when prompted and click Ok. Make sure your new Spam folder is highlighted, then click Ok to return to the New Mail Rule window.

The description should now read like below.

All done! Click Ok to return to Outlook Express. All messages that are labelled [spam] in the subject line will be automatically moved into the new spam folder.

Because the Solnet spam filter can never be 100% accurate, you should still quickly look through the spam folder before deleting anything. To make sure that regular emails from your friends aren't accidentaly moved to the spam folder, follow the additional instructions here.
