Browser or Cookie Problems

Many of our systems use 'stored cookies' to identify your computer. This technique is used for example in our e-commerce systems to keep track of items in a shopping basket. Our systems are fully tested on all common browsers but if you are having problems with our shopping systems or other 'member' based services, please use the browser test.

FTP Settings & Host Scripts
If you have purchased a web space and hosting package, you have FTP access to your own web area. Solnet admin will allocate you a user name and password which will be sent to you via normal e-mail. If you ever feel your password has been compromised, contact the hostmster who will change the settings immediately. The full FTP settings required for access are:

User ID: Allocated by Solnet
Password: Allocated by Solnet
Host Address: ftp2.solnet.co.uk
Port: 21 (standard)
User Type: normal (NOT anonymous)
Transfer Type: if required, normally set to auto-detect
MODE: do not use PASSIVE mode

Your FTP account allows you to upload files to your root directory and to create sub-directories beneath your root. Your front page should be called index.html You may also download files from the server to your PC if required. Your FTP account does not allow you to store or retrieve any server side scripts or applications, however, we do supply certain standard scripts for processing forms and for web-counters. If you would like details of these scripts, or you would like to suggest other scripts, please e-mail web@solnet.co.uk.

If you use Internet Explorer as an FTP Client, use the address ftp://userid@ftp2.solnet.co.uk and ensure that IE is NOT set for Passive Mode (under Tools/Internet Options/Advanced)

Mail Options
If your Internet Domain Name is hosted by Solnet, you have FREE 'Mail Forwarding' for any mail sent to your domain. This means that we will forward all e-mails for your domain to a nominated ISP e-mail account. (eg anything@yourname.co.uk goes to myname@virgin.net).

There is no restriction on the number of mail addresses, you can use anyname before the @sign, such as sales@yourname.co.uk, admin@yourname.co.uk, joe.bloggs@yourname.co.uk If you need to distribute your Internet mail to individual users on your own internal network, your domain mail system is already capable of this, and it can be done using your existing single user ISP connection. Here's how:

For an additional £75 per year, we can provide POP3 or SMTP access to your Internet mailbox, enabling a Network Mail Server (such as Microsoft Exchange Server or MDaemon) to manage both your local and Internet mail. For more details please e-mail web@solnet.co.uk
